I recently interviewed Olympic dressage rider Lisa Wilcox for Polo DeMarco Magazine
I asked her what part of her story deserves to be in her legacy but has rarely been shared publicly.

I asked her what part of her story deserves to be in her legacy but has rarely been shared publicly.
Her answer stopped me: her mother's prayers.
Lisa told me she wouldn't have achieved what she did—World Equestrian Games, Open European Championships, Athens Olympics—without her mother's steadfast faith. "I genuinely believe the Lord was with me every step I took," she said, "because my mom was praying."
Her mother passed in 2003. Lisa didn't make it back in time. She carries that weight still—the things she wanted to say, the gratitude she only fully understood later.
What struck me wasn't just her athletic excellence. It was her willingness to name what's usually invisible: the sacrifice, the support, the prayers that opened doors she couldn't see at the time.
I know that feeling. The realization that the people who believed in us most don't always get to witness what their faith made possible.
Lisa's career wasn't built on talent alone. It was built on love that didn't ask for credit.
That's true for most of us who've achieved anything worth remembering.
